Designer

You’re a designer who understands developers. You’ll help us build a design-led organization.

Machine learning is going to become a huge part of how software will be built, but most of the tools and processes are undefined.

This job isn’t just making a bunch of user interfaces for a developer tool. You’ll design what a machine learning model is, how models should be deployed, how the workflows should work, how teams should collaborate on models, and so on. All this stuff hasn’t been figured out yet.

We’re looking for the right person, not just someone who checks boxes, so you don’t need to satisfy all of these things. But, you might have some of these qualities:

• A balance of both how it works and what it looks like skills. We expect you to care about user experience, information architecture, and systems thinking, as well as making a beautiful product.
• A technical background and a taste for good developer tools and APIs. We’re making complex systems easier to use, so you need to be able to understand and distill that stuff. Maybe you’ve worked somewhere like GitHub, Heroku, or Stripe.
• Some engineering skills would be helpful. You don’t need to be an expert, but ideally you can implement user interfaces directly in HTML and CSS rather than toss a Figma file over the fence.
• Extensive experience shipping products, ideally from scratch.
• Excellent writing skills. We care about words.
